Virat Kohli's Jersey Mishap
In a memorable moment at the Cricket World Cup 2023, Virat Kohli, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, found himself wearing the wrong jersey during the India vs. Pakistan clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While his teammates sported jerseys featuring the tricolour stripes on their shoulders, Kohli’s jersey had three white stripes instead. Realizing the error mid-match, Kohli had to hurriedly leave the field and head back to the dugout to change into the correct jersey. The crowd cheered him on as he made the switch, and he was soon back in action.
India’s captain for the match, Rohit Sharma, had won the toss and elected to bowl first in this highly anticipated Cricket World Cup 2023 match, expected to be attended by a massive crowd of 120,000 fans. Opening batsman Shubman Gill returned to the team, taking the place of Ishan Kishan, who had been sidelined due to dengue fever, causing him to miss the first two matches.
Rohit Sharma, addressing the crowd at the toss, remarked, “Cannot get bigger than this, fantastic atmosphere.” He acknowledged the significance of the match and the extraordinary experience it promised for the players.
India came into the match as the favorites, having remained unbeaten with victories over five-time champions Australia and Afghanistan. On the other hand, Pakistan, having also won their previous two matches against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, made no changes to their lineup. Their remarkable chase of a World Cup record 345 runs against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad had showcased their strength.
Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, revealed that had he won the toss, he would have also chosen to field first. He expressed confidence in his team’s momentum and the support of the jam-packed stadium, eagerly anticipating an enjoyable match.
Notably, the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket stadium, was predominantly filled with Indian fans, as many Pakistan supporters were unable to secure visas.
