Rohit Sharma
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, speaking at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Khanderi, which has been renamed after veteran cricket administrator Niranjan Shah, announced on Wednesday that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian cricket team in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Shah expressed confidence that under Rohit’s leadership, India will excel in the tournament, despite their loss in the Cricket World Cup 2023 final against Australia.
Reflecting on the 2023 World Cup final, Shah emphasized that although India didn’t clinch the title after 10 consecutive wins, they earned admiration and support. He assured the audience that in the 2024 T20 World Cup, to be held in Barbados, India, under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, will proudly represent the nation.
Rohit Sharma, visibly pleased, received the announcement with a smile, while his teammates showed their support with applause, creating a moment captured in a viral video on social media.

Addressing the question of who would take over the captaincy if Hardik is injured during the T20 World Cup, Shah pointed to Rohit’s remarkable performance in adverse situations, citing the third T20I against Afghanistan where he steered India from a precarious 22/4 to a commanding 212/4.
Shah highlighted Rohit’s capabilities, underscoring India’s impressive streak of 10 victories in the ODI World Cup. He acknowledged that while India didn’t clinch the final, the essence of the game lies in performance, and Shah reiterated his confidence in Rohit Sharma’s leadership abilities.
