Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Breaks Chris Gayle’s Record For Most Sixes In T20 Tournament

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi achieved another remarkable feat during the IPL 2026 Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad by registering the highest number of sixes ever hit in a single T20 tournament.

The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener smashed 65 sixes in the season to move past Chris Gayle’s previous record of 59 maximums set during the 2012 IPL campaign for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The left-handed batter from Bihar also became the youngest player to score 600 runs in a T20 competition before reaching the age of 20 after smashing 97 off just 29 balls, which included 12 sixes.

Vaibhav now holds the record for the highest number of runs scored by a teenager in any T20 tournament. His tally of 680 runs in 15 matches eclipsed the earlier record held by Devdutt Padikkal, who had scored 580 runs for Karnataka in the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Vaibhav’s exceptional season has placed him ahead of several prominent cricketers who impressed during their teenage years.

Tilak Varma occupies third place on the list after scoring 397 runs for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022.

South African batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius also managed 397 runs while representing Paarl Royals during the 2024-25 SA20 season.

England batter Will Smeed, France player Gustav McKeon and Indian cricketers Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw are among the players Vaibhav has overtaken.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bowl first against Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

SRH brought Praful Hinge into the side in place of Salil Arora. Rajasthan Royals also altered their playing XI by including Ravindra Jadeja instead of Shubham Dubey.
