The third ODI match between India’s women’s cricket team and Bangladesh will be played on Saturday, July 22, at Shere Bangla National Stadium. While batting first, Fargana Hoque’s first ODI century helped the hosts collect 225/4, but fifty-plus scores from Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol have enabled the Women in Blue inch closer to a spirited victory.
However, spectators saw Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur lose her temper after being given out in the 34th over, when her team still had seven wickets to spare and only 66 runs to win the match.
Despite losing their struggling opener Shafali Verma and wicketkeeper batswoman Yastika Bhatia early on, India was able to move near to their mark thanks to a magnificent 107-run third-wicket combination between Mandhana and Harleen.
By taking Mandhana’s wicket in the 29th over after she had scored 59 off of 85, seasoned leggie Fahima Khaun provided the hosts with a breakthrough and put an end to their own batting woes. In the middle, Harmanpreet joined Harleen, and the two of them contributed another 21 runs for the fourth wicket.
With the aid of two fours, the Indian skipper scored 14 out of 21 and appeared to be in good form to end the game. Fahima took a catch in the slip, but Nahida Akter eventually got her wicket. Harmanpreet was certain that the ball bounced off her bat and never touched the pad. But because the umpire rapidly raised his finger to signal out for lbw, there was no time to ask for a review.
Harmanpreet Kaur was clearly enraged by this as she banged her fist against the bat before bursting in wrath and striking the stumps. She even gestured at an umpire as she walked away from the playing field. As the leader of the Indian squad, she needed to convey her annoyance without losing her cool; hence, while her wrath was understandable, it cannot be justified.
