T20 World Cup: England Beat Nepal By 4 Runs In A Nail-Biting Thriller

England avoided a major upset as they scraped through with a four-run victory over Nepal in a pulsating Group C encounter of the T20 World Cup 2026 in Mumbai.

The high-intensity clash went down to the final over, testing England’s composure under pressure.

Pursuing a demanding target of 185, Nepal displayed remarkable resilience and intent. Kushal Bhurtel set the tone with a quick 29 from 17 balls, while skipper Rohit Paudel steadied the innings with 39 off 34 deliveries.

Dipendra Singh Airee emerged as the driving force in the middle overs, striking 44 from 29 balls, and Lokesh Bam added urgency with a rapid 39 off 20 deliveries.

Nepal entered the final over requiring 10 runs to script a famous victory. However, Sam Curran’s disciplined bowling limited the scoring, allowing only five runs and denying Nepal a historic finish. The chase ended at 180 for 6, leaving Nepal just short despite an inspired effort.

Curran’s Experience Proves Crucial

Sam Curran drew on his international experience to deliver when it mattered most. While Nepal matched England for much of the contest, England’s calm approach in decisive moments ultimately tilted the match in their favour.

Earlier, England chose to bat after winning the toss and posted 184 for 7. Jacob Bethell anchored the innings with a fluent 55 off 35 balls, peppered with four sixes and four boundaries.

Captain Harry Brook complemented him with a brisk 53 from 32 deliveries. Will Jacks injected momentum at the death with 39 off just 18 balls, while Jos Buttler contributed a handy 26.

With the ball, Liam Dawson led England’s attack with two wickets. Luke Wood, Jofra Archer, Will Jacks and Sam Curran chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Will Jacks earned the Player of the Match award for his impactful performance, as England walked away with a hard-fought win in one of the most gripping matches of the tournament so far.
