T20 World Cup: Bangladesh Board To Take 48 Hours Before Confirming Participation

Following the ICC’s decision to reject Bangladesh’s appeal to move their matches from India, BCB officials have requested a short window to consult with the national government.

A BCB source told Telecom Asia Sport that while the players and government want Bangladesh to participate, they remain concerned about safety and prefer relocating matches to Sri Lanka, or swapping with Ireland or Zimbabwe.

The ICC has provided a final deadline of 24 hours for Bangladesh to confirm travel to India. Sources revealed that BCB officials obtained an extension of 24–48 hours to brief the government and report back.

BCB sources emphasised that the government will carefully assess all factors before issuing directives, balancing player welfare with broader considerations.

Officials have already communicated with senior government authorities following the ICC meeting.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled from 7 February to 8 March 2026, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The BCB’s consultation period comes amid political tensions and the release of Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2026.

Officials indicated that the decision will be communicated to the ICC after government guidance.

The BCB aims to ensure clarity while safeguarding players, maintaining the possibility of participation without immediate pressure.

The ICC will await the board’s final confirmation before taking any further action regarding replacements or rescheduling.
