Pakistan Disappointed As ICC Denies Bangladesh Request, Will Not Withdraw

Pakistan expressed disappointment after the International Cricket Council (ICC) declined Bangladesh’s appeal to relocate their T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns.

Sources revealed that while Pakistan sympathised with Bangladesh’s stance, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has no plans to withdraw from the tournament.

The decision comes after India insisted on shifting Pakistan-hosted matches in previous events to neutral venues such as Dubai.

Officials confirmed that Pakistan is evaluating options but will not consider pulling out.

“Pakistan was never considering withdrawal; the team will play in the scheduled neutral venues without security concerns,” a source told Telecom Asia Sport.

Reports suggesting otherwise largely stemmed from social media speculation rather than official statements.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal described the ICC’s decision as ‘on expected lines’.

He noted that ICC rulings have historically favoured India in certain situations, citing examples including the Champions Trophy and the 2023 Asia Cup.

Akmal added that logistical and scheduling constraints prevented the council from making changes at this stage.

The Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka from 7 February to 8 March 2026.

Despite Pakistan’s disappointment over Bangladesh’s request, the nation remains fully committed to participating.

Sources said the team has no security concerns in the designated neutral venues and will play as scheduled, ensuring the tournament proceeds smoothly.

By maintaining their participation, Pakistan ensures that the World Cup schedule remains intact, highlighting the country’s commitment to international cricket while respecting the decisions of the ICC and preserving the integrity of the event.
