India captain Shreyas Iyer received the team’s Impact Player of the Series medal after the five-match T20I contest against the West Indies ended in a 2-2 draw.
Rain washed out Saturday’s deciding match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The BCCI shared a dressing-room video of the presentation on Sunday. India’s training assistant Nuwan Seneviratne handed Iyer the medal and praised his performances with the bat and in the field.
“Tonight the Impact Player medal goes to someone who scored his first T20I hundred, and only a few players in India have scored hundreds in all three formats, and he’s leading in the front and even in the field, and the award goes to Shreyas Iyer,” Seneviratne said in the video posted on bcci.tv on Sunday.
The BCCI captioned the video on its social media accounts: “Rain, runs, and some dressing room BTS. Summing up the series decider, ft. the Impact Player of the Series medal presentation.”
Iyer finished as the series’ third-highest run-scorer, accumulating 181 runs in five innings at an average of 45.25 and a strike rate of 205.68.
His maiden T20I century in the opening match in Lucknow also made him the seventh Indian men’s cricketer to register centuries across all three international formats.
India won the first and third matches, while the West Indies claimed the second and fourth games. Saturday’s rain-affected washout left the teams sharing the series trophy.
India will next travel to New Zealand for a five-match T20I series beginning on October 22. The first two matches will take place at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on October 22 and 24.
