Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
In a press conference on Monday, the 17-man lineup for the Indian cricket team’s 2023 Asia Cup campaign was revealed. At a press conference, captain Rohit Sharma and the BCCI’s top selector unveiled the team. The two also addressed concerns over India’s roster for the continental competition and the ensuing home World Cup in 2023. The lack of bowling options in the team beyond the specialist bowlers was one question Rohit had. Rohit had a distinctive response to the question.
“That was the 2011 team. They had people with bowling and batting skills. With what you have, you must be content. We are giving those who are doing well a chance. Someone who can bowl cannot be created overnight. These men are capable run-scorers when they bat. They are a part of the team because of this. In a news conference that had everyone in a tizzy, India skipper Rohit Sharma said, “But hopefully Sharma and Kohli can bowl some overs in the World Cup.
Ajit Agarkar, the BCCI top selector, remarked from his seat next to him, “We have persuaded them”
In response to a question on Tilak Varma’s ODI cricket ineligibility, Agarkar said, In the West Indies, we saw some great promise in terms of not just performances but the temperament. Being a left-hander once more gives us the chance to add him to the club and give him more exposure.
“Fortunately, we can pick 17, but the World Cup will only have 15 players. We’ll make that decision when the time is right, but for the time being, it at least gives the captain and coach the chance to include him in the team.
