Shardul Thakur Successfully Underwent Foot Surgery In London

India’s all-rounder Shardul Thakur successfully underwent foot surgery in London due to an injury he sustained during the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Thakur shared a post-surgery photo on Instagram, captioning it, “Operated successfully.”

Thakur’s career has been plagued by injuries. He suffered a groin injury during his Test debut against the West Indies and missed the 2021 Lord’s Test against England due to a hamstring issue. Earlier this year, an ankle injury during the South Africa tour kept him out of a crucial Ranji Trophy match against Kerala.

Despite these setbacks, Shardul made a strong return in the Ranji Trophy and called for the BCCI to allow longer breaks in the schedule for better recovery and preparation.

Shardul had a challenging IPL 2024 season, taking only five wickets in nine matches with an economy rate of 9.76 and an average of 61.80, below his usual performance. His toughest game was against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he took 2/61 in four overs, marking the second-worst figures for a Chennai Super Kings bowler in IPL history, behind Lungi Ngidi’s 0/62.

His last appearance for India was in a Test against South Africa at Centurion in December 2023, where he struggled with figures of 1/101 in an innings defeat by 32 runs.

However, Shardul’s resilience was evident in the Ranji Trophy, where he was pivotal in Mumbai’s victory. He scored 255 runs and took 12 wickets in five games, earning the Player of the Match award in the semi-final against Tamil Nadu with a century and a four-wicket haul.
