Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, accompanied by his family and the family of his son Arjun Tendulkar’s fiancée Saaniya Chandhok, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday to formally invite him to the wedding.
Sharing the interaction on social media, Sachin Tendulkar said the families felt privileged to extend the invitation in person. He also thanked the Prime Minister for his blessings and guidance for the couple ahead of their wedding.
The meeting came ahead of the wedding functions, which the families plan to hold in Mumbai.
Posting photographs from the meeting, Sachin wrote, “We were honoured to invite Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji to Arjun and Saaniya’s wedding. Thank you, Modi ji, for your blessings and thoughtful advice for the young couple.”
Arjun Tendulkar, son of the former India captain, is to marry Saaniya Chandhok, who is an entrepreneur and a trained veterinary technician.
Sources had earlier indicated that the wedding celebrations would begin on March 3, with the marriage ceremony scheduled for March 5 in the presence of close relatives and friends.
The couple reportedly held a low-key engagement ceremony in August last year, attended by only family members and a small circle of friends.
Saaniya Chandhok is also the granddaughter of Mumbai-based businessman Ravi Ghai.
Arjun Tendulkar, a fast bowler who can also contribute with the bat in the lower order, is currently active in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League. He made his Ranji Trophy debut for Goa in 2022 and made an immediate impact by scoring a century in his first first-class appearance.
In the IPL, the Mumbai Indians initially signed Arjun in 2021 at a base price of Rs 20 lakh, but an injury ruled him out for the season. The franchise bought him again at the 2022 auction for Rs 30 lakh, and he made his IPL debut in 2023 against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
That season, he claimed his maiden IPL wicket by dismissing Bhuvneshwar Kumar against Sunrisers Hyderabad, finishing the campaign with three wickets.
Arjun stayed with the Mumbai Indians for the 2024 season before the franchise traded him to the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the 2026 IPL.
