On the second day of the first Test in Dominica, youthful batting prodigy Yashasvi Jaiswal crushed West Indies for his first-ever international century in the India Vs West Indies series. The slick left-hander accomplished historic score. Jaiswal put India in front by finishing the day with an unbroken 143, displaying incredible tenacity and perseverance. With his century, Jaiswal joined a select group of Indian openers who recorded a hundred in their first Test matches.
The 21-year-old is now among the openers who have struck a century in their first Tests, joining Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.
Shaw struck 134 against the West Indies in Rajkot in 2018, compared to Dhawan’s 187 against Australia in his maiden Test at Mohali in 2013.

Yashasvi also became the third Indian batsman to reach 100 against the West Indies on his or her debut. Shaw and Rohit Sharma are the other two batsmen to accomplish the milestone (177 at Kolkata in 2013).
Yashasvi has been the seventh Indian batsman in the past 13 years to score a Test century on his debut in an away game. Suresh Raina, who hit a 120 against Sri Lanka in 2010, was the latest Indian to reach the milestone while playing outside of India.
The left-hander also made history by scoring a hundred on debut in a Test match for India. Shreyas Iyer was the most recent player to accomplish this milestone; he did so in Kanpur in 2021 against New Zealand.
The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and his partner added 229 runs for the first wicket in the West Indies, which was the greatest opening partnership for India in Test matches. The pair broke the 17-year-old record of a 159-run stand in Gros Islet set by Virender Sehwag and Wasim Jaffer.
