PV Sindhu Reaches BWF Super 750 Semi-Finals After Nozomi Okuhara Withdraws

Indian badminton star PV Sindhu advanced to the semi-finals of the BWF Super 750 tournament on Friday after Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara withdrew from their quarter-final match.

The result sends Sindhu into her first Super 750 semi-final since the Denmark Open in 2023. It also marks her third semi-final appearance of the season, following strong runs at the Malaysia Super 1000 and Australia Super 500.

The two-time Olympic medallist is chasing her first title of the year. Standing in her way is reigning Tokyo Olympic champion Chen Yufei of China, currently ranked world No 4.

Sindhu has faced Chen Yufei 14 times on the BWF Tour and trails the head-to-head record 6-8.

The Chinese shuttler has dominated their recent meetings, winning each of their last five encounters.

A victory in Saturday’s semi-final would not only end Sindhu’s losing streak against Chen but also earn her a place in her first Super 750 final in nearly three years.

Sindhu remains India’s sole representative in the tournament after producing an impressive quarter-final display against China’s Han Yue, the world No 5. She sealed a convincing 21-16, 21-14 victory in just 35 minutes to book her place in the last four.

Chen has enjoyed another consistent campaign in 2025. The 28-year-old lifted the Indonesia Masters title and finished runner-up at the Thailand Open and Malaysia Masters, both Super 500 events.

Chen Yufei has also reached the semi-finals of the Singapore Open and India Open, both Super 750 tournaments, in addition to the Malaysia Open and the prestigious All England Open, both Super 1000 events.
