Prithvi Shaw Sets Historic Milestone in Indian Cricket: “My Aim Is To…”

In only his second match back from a six-month injury hiatus, young batsman Prithvi Shaw showcased his prowess by smashing a century for Mumbai against Chhattisgarh in their Ranji Trophy Group B clash in Raipur. Shaw’s knock of 159 off 185 deliveries, studded with 18 boundaries and three sixes, propelled Mumbai to a commanding position. Notably, he achieved the rare feat of scoring two centuries in the opening session on day one of a first-class cricket match, a record for an Indian player. Shaw had previously achieved a similar milestone against Assam on his way to a remarkable score of 379 runs, the second-highest individual total in Ranji Trophy history.

Reflecting on his return to action, Shaw admitted feeling anxious and doubtful about his ability to perform at his best following his knee injury sustained while playing for Northamptonshire in the County Championship. However, he credited his perseverance and a positive mindset for overcoming these concerns, aided by engaging in match simulations to regain confidence in his batting.

While his century has sparked discussions about a potential comeback to the Indian Test side, Shaw remained focused on contributing to Mumbai’s success in the Ranji Trophy. He emphasized staying grounded and concentrating on the present, expressing his joy at being back on the field and striving to deliver his best for his team.

Shaw’s outstanding performance underscores his talent and resilience, reaffirming his status as one of the most promising young cricketers in India. His contributions will be crucial as Mumbai pursues victory in the ongoing tournament.
