Hockey India League opens registration for an edition making a comeback after a pause of 8 years. Hockey India has invited players from across the country to register themselves by June 30 at the latest.
The Hockey India League will have eight men’s and six women’s teams in its 2024–2025 season.
Highlighting Hockey India’s goal to promote women’s hockey and ultimately expand the talent pool of female hockey players in India.
The Hockey India League has invited the top 15 hockey-playing countries for the forthcoming season. For players in these countries, registrations are also open. The event will take place from the FIH-approved final week of December 2024. It will conclude in the first week of February 2025.
Dilip Tirkey, president of Hockey India, commented on the occasion, saying, “We are thrilled to start player registration for the Hockey India League 2024–2025 edition. This action indicates that the HIL, a league cherished by hockey players and spectators worldwide, is about to be revived. We have no doubt that aspiring Indian hockey players would seize the chance to compete against and play with some of the world’s top players.”
Bhola Nath Singh, secretary general of Hockey India, added, “It is a matter of great joy and pride that we are on the verge of restarting the HIL, which played a pivotal role in the resurgence of the Indian Hockey Teams.” The league will support raising youth hockey standards and fostering a national hockey culture. We anticipate receiving a ton of applications from both overseas and India.”
