Pelé, Black Pearl Breathed His Last AT 82: A Tribute To The Legend

Pelé, known to be the “Black Pearl” of the Brazil, has taken his last breath at his 82 in Sao Paulo. The magical footballer was battling from a tumor on his colon and was hospitalized for recent months. Pele made a history to be the three-time FIFA World Cup Champion. He had shown the true meaning of being a G.O.A.T (greatest of all times) and the best-known athletes in the modern history.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the legend was name Pelé after scoring 1281 goals and the only player to win 3 times WC. Pelé spent nearly two decades enchanting fans and dazzling opponents as the game’s most prolific scorer with Brazilian club Santos and the Brazil national team.

On his Instagram handle, Pelé’s agent Hoe Fraga confirmed his death.

History And Career Of The Legend

The football legend was born on October 23, 1940.  He was born in small Minas Gerias town of Três Corações. He learned football from his father, a semi-professional player whose promising career was derailed by a knee injury.

During his young age several myths were obscured with him. He often played as a goalkeeper in his neighborhood and kids began to call him “Bile.” However, it is still not clarified. Soon, he was soon dazzling scouts not a goalkeeper but as an attacking forward- The Number 10.

Being a talented and energetic player, he was tremendously appreciated by everyone. He was two-footed and had a marvelous pace and stamina. Pelé could do a head, pass, tackle to score his goals.

At his 18, the legend won every honor in Brazilian football as well as two Copa Libertadores. Sooner, his talent was recognized by the national team and he was chosen for the Brazilian squad for the 1958 WC in Sweden.

With his tremendous football skills, the Black Pearl won his first ever WC title. According to the report by FIFA, Pelé played 1366 games and scored over 1281 goals. He had a startling rate of 0.94 per match.

World Pays A Tribute

Ahead of the heart wrenching demise of the legend several footballers and officials have paid him a tribute.

FIFA president Infantino has taken Twitter to pay his tribute to the legend. The FIFA president has said the following:

“For everyone who loves the beautiful game, this is the day we never wanted to come. The day we lost Pelé.”

The FIFA World Champion of World Cup 2022 Qatar, Lionel Messi has shared his thoughts on his Instagram account.

Neymar, who has succeeded Pelé in the iconic Brazil No.10 shirt, said: “Before Pelé, 10 was just a number. Before Pelé, football was just a sport. Pelé has changed it all. He turned football into art, into entertainment. He gave voice to the poor, to the blacks and, especially, he gave visibility to Brazil. He’s gone but his magic remains.”

The France superstar is also seen as a successor to Pelé, having matched his precocious records for scoring as a teenager in the World Cup final and for total goals in World Cups before the age of 24 (12). Mbappé’s homage to Pelé showed that, despite his lofty ambitions in the world game, the Parisian has nothing but respect for the man and the mar he left on the beautiful game.
