Nita Ambani has been unanimously re-elected as the Indian representative to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony this weekend. The announcement came during the IOC’s 142nd session, where Nita, the founder of Reliance Foundation, secured a decisive victory with 100% of the vote.
Expressing deep gratitude for her re-election, Nita Ambani remarked, “I am deeply honored by the faith and trust placed in me by President Bach and my fellow IOC members. This re-election is not just a personal milestone but also underscores India’s growing influence in global sports.”
She added, “I share this joyous moment with every Indian and remain committed to further strengthening the Olympic Movement in India and globally.”
Appointed as India’s first female IOC member in 2016 during the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, Nita Ambani has been instrumental in advancing India’s sporting ambitions and Olympic aspirations. Her initiatives with Reliance Foundation have significantly impacted sports development across India, benefiting over 22.9 million children and youth from grassroots to elite levels.
Reflecting on her contributions, Nita highlighted the milestone of hosting the first IOC session in Mumbai after four decades in October 2023, showcasing India’s renewed sporting vigor to the world.
IOC President Thomas Bach extended his congratulations to Nita Ambani and other re-elected members, emphasizing the collective commitment to advancing the Olympic Movement globally.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are set to take place from July 26 to August 11, promising to be a celebration of global sporting excellence in the heart of France’s capital city.
