Messi, Ronaldo Set To Make World Cup History At FIFA World Cup 2026

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are poised to create football history at the FIFA World Cup 2026 as they become the first male players to feature in six editions of the tournament.

The iconic duo will once again lead Argentina and Portugal, respectively, adding another chapter to one of sport’s greatest rivalries.

From their first World Cup appearances in Germany in 2006 to their participation in North America in 2026, both superstars have remained at the pinnacle of global football.

With this tournament widely expected to be their final World Cup, they will seek a memorable farewell on the sport’s grandest stage.

Defending champions Argentina will begin their title defence against Algeria on June 17.

Messi remains central to Argentina’s plans after leading the nation to World Cup glory in Qatar.

Argentina enter the competition among the leading contenders and will rely on key performers, including Julián Álvarez and goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.

Algeria, however, arrive with confidence following a strong run of performances.

Riyad Mahrez, Mohamed Amoura and Rayan Aït-Nouri will spearhead their challenge against the reigning champions.

Portugal will open their campaign against DR Congo after gaining momentum from their recent UEFA Nations League triumph.

Ronaldo leads a talented Portuguese squad featuring Bruno Fernandes and Vitinha.

The Portuguese captain remains determined to secure the only major trophy missing from his remarkable collection.

The team will also honour the dream of forward Diogo Jota by pursuing World Cup glory.

DR Congo returns to football’s biggest tournament with a competitive squad led by Yoane Wissa, Meschack Elia and captain Chancel Mbemba. Their pace and physical strength could pose problems for one of the tournament favourites.

Fans can watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 live on ZEE5 in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Malayalam and Bangla.
