Kuldeep Yadav’s influential spell of performances across the ODI series earned him the Impact Player of the Series award after India overcame the West Indies 2-1.
The left-arm wrist-spinner topped the wicket charts with seven dismissals in three matches and produced his best figures with a four-wicket haul in Thiruvananthapuram. His performances saw him become the quickest Indian spinner to complete 200 wickets in men’s ODI cricket.
Team physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar lauded Kuldeep for maintaining his standards throughout the series and delivering whenever India needed him.
“As we discussed, he has always stood up and performed exceptionally well, and he has always put his body on the line, and this award goes to Kuldeep Yadav,” Parmar said in a video posted on BCCI’s social media accounts on Sunday.
Kuldeep dedicated part of his award to captain Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, acknowledging their important contributions with the bat during the series. He pointed to India’s preparatory camp in Thiruvananthapuram as an important factor in helping him regain his best rhythm before the matches began.
“Firstly, congratulations for the series win. A lot of credit goes to Shubhi, Virat bhai, KL bhai and Rohit bhai, especially with the bat. This award really means a lot to me because before the start of the series, we had a couple of sessions in Trivandrum. Then I felt like I was in a very, very good rhythm. I just wanted to continue that rhythm into the games as well, and luckily, it went really well. So this is very special. Thank you,” he said.
Kuldeep is set to return to action in the opening T20I against the West Indies in Lucknow on Tuesday.
India and the West Indies will then meet in Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru on October 9, 11, 14 and 17 respectively.
