In a key clash of the IPL 2026, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured a five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, opening their account for the season.
LSG now have one win from two matches and sits seventh in the standings, while SRH slipped to fifth after losing two of their three games.
Batting first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, SRH posted 156/9 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings began on a shaky note, with the team losing four wickets for just 26 runs in 7.1 overs.
However, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen stabilised the innings with a crucial 116-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Reddy scored 56 off 33 balls, striking five sixes and three fours, while Klaasen contributed 62 off 41 deliveries, including two sixes and five boundaries. Liam Livingstone added 14 runs.
For LSG, Mohammed Shami, Prince Yadav, and Avesh Khan claimed two wickets each, while Digvesh Rathi and Manimaran Siddharth picked up one apiece.
Chasing 157, LSG reached the target in 19.5 overs. Openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram provided a steady start, adding 37 runs in 28 balls before Marsh departed for 14.
Markram then combined with captain Rishabh Pant for a 40-run partnership. Markram scored a fluent 45 off 27 balls, featuring two sixes and six fours. Pant continued to build the innings, adding 25 runs with Ayush Badoni, who made 12.
Pant further stitched a 34-run stand with Abdul Samad to take LSG closer to victory. After Samad’s dismissal for 16, Pant remained composed and guided the team home with an unbeaten 68 off 50 deliveries, striking nine fours.
For SRH, Harsh Dubey picked up two wickets, while Eshan Malinga and Shivang Kumar chipped in with one wicket each.
LSG’s balanced performance, led by Pant’s composed innings, ensured a comfortable chase and a much-needed victory, while SRH were left to rue their early batting collapse despite a strong middle-order recovery.
