The Indian senior men’s hockey team was greeted with enthusiastic celebrations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi early Thursday morning, following their impressive triumph at the 2024 Asian Champions Trophy.
Led by captain Harmanpreet Singh, the Indian team clinched the trophy for the fifth time, narrowly defeating hosts China 1-0 in a tense final held at the Moqi Hockey Training Base on Tuesday.
This victory comes just a month after India secured a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking their second consecutive medal in the event. Throughout the Asian Champions Trophy, the team remained unbeaten, showcasing their dominance with a series of commanding performances. They topped their pool with victories over China (3-0), Japan (5-1), Malaysia (8-1), Korea (3-1), and a close win against rivals Pakistan (2-1).

In the semi-finals, India continued their strong form with a decisive 4-1 victory over Korea, setting the stage for the championship clash against China. Jugraj Singh’s crucial goal late in the fourth quarter secured the win, despite a determined effort from the hosts.
With this latest triumph, India solidified its status as the most successful team in the history of the Asian Champions Trophy, extending their record to five titles. This victory also marks their second consecutive championship, following their win in 2023, making them the only team to achieve this milestone.
To honor the team’s achievements, Hockey India has announced a cash reward of ₹3 lakh for each player and ₹1.5 lakh for each support staff member.
