Following their spectacular T20 World Cup victory, the Indian cricket team finds themselves stranded in Barbados as Hurricane Beryl, now a Category 4 hurricane, approaches the island.
Originally a Category 3 storm, Beryl has intensified and is likely to make landfall by Monday morning, local time.
The team’s itinerary included a flight from Barbados to New York, a connecting flight to Dubai, and finally a return to India.
The departure was for Monday at 11 AM local time (8:30 PM IST), but the approaching hurricane has forced a delay.
With Bridgetown airport preparing for a shutdown, the team’s departure remains uncertain.
Barbados, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadine Islands, Grenada, and Tobago are under hurricane warnings.
As per the National Hurricane Center, Beryl is likely to remain an extremely dangerous major hurricane as it reaches the Windward Islands on Monday morning.
The hurricane is to bring 3 to 6 inches of rain across Barbados and the Windward Islands through Monday.
The core of Beryl is likely to move through the Windward Islands into the eastern Caribbean, maintaining its status as a major hurricane.
As the Indian team waits for updates, their safety remains the top priority amid the severe weather conditions.
The cricketing world watches closely, hoping for the swift and safe return of the World Cup champions.
