Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the growing success of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle programme, saying it has significantly boosted fitness awareness across the country. He highlighted the initiative during his 128th episode of Mann Ki Baat, calling it a positive example of community-led participation in health activities.
“There are many other competitions that are becoming very popular among our young friends. Many people are coming together to participate in programs like Fit India Sundays on Cycle. These are all ways to promote fitness,” said the Prime Minister.
The weekly cycling event has quickly gained traction. Thousands now join every Sunday, transforming it into a vibrant, mass fitness movement.
Rajasthan Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore led the 51st edition of the nationwide drive on November 30 in Jaipur. He applauded PM Modi’s continuous push for better health standards.
He said, “There are very few Prime Ministers in the world who make so many clarion calls, focusing on the health and well-being of their citizens. Narendra Modi ji has time and again spoken about Fit India.”
Rathore emphasised how PM Modi’s guidance spans across daily habits and lifestyle changes.
He said, “From reducing our oil consumption to having millets (shree anna) and working dedicatedly on reducing obesity, our Prime Minister has always urged us to take all measures to be fit, be it through yoga, cycling, running, or other various ways. The movement created in the nation through the Sundays on Cycle is an evident example of this.”
The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative began in December 2024, under the leadership of Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya.
It reinforces PM Modi’s message of “Fitness Ka Dose, Adha Ghanta Roz” and the nationwide “Fight Against Obesity.”
Today, the movement has grown immensely. More than 4,000 NaMo Fit India Cycling Clubs, along with lakhs of citizens, take part every week.
People of all ages now lead this community-driven fitness revolution on streets, lanes and public spaces across India.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) supports the programme across its SAI Training Centres (STCs).
Centres in Kokrajhar, Jagatpur, Badal, Utlou and Kargil actively participate each week.
Several Khelo India Centres, including Bhadrak, Jharsuguda and Dhenkanal, also conduct weekly cycling events.
Additionally, 23 SAI National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) host the activity every Sunday.
The Fit India cycling movement continues to expand, inspiring citizens to make fitness a daily habit and building a healthier, more active nation.
