India Women Sweep Sri Lanka 3–0 After Dominant Eight-Wicket Win

India Women emphatically stamped their authority as they clinched the T20I series against Sri Lanka with a dominant eight-wicket victory in the third match at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.

Powered by a breathtaking unbeaten knock from Shafali Verma and a ruthless bowling display from Renuka Singh Thakur and Deepti Sharma, India surged to an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

After opting to field, India’s bowlers dictated terms from the outset. Renuka Singh Thakur returned with searing pace and movement, dismantling Sri Lanka’s top order with figures of 4 for 21.

Deepti Sharma complemented her brilliantly, using guile and control to pick up 3 for 18. Together, they choked the scoring lanes and restricted Sri Lanka to a modest 112 for 7 in 20 overs.

Sri Lanka showed early intent through Hasini Perera, who struck a few crisp boundaries, but the momentum evaporated once Deepti dismissed captain Chamari Athapaththu under pressure.

Renuka then tore through the middle order, removing Hasini, Harshitha Samarawickrama and Nilakshika Silva in quick succession.

A brief resistance came from Imesha Dulani and Kavisha Dilhari, whose 40-run partnership steadied the innings momentarily.

However, Deepti broke that stand and went on to create history by becoming the first cricketer, across men’s and women’s T20Is, to achieve the rare double of 1,000 runs and 150 wickets.

Late boundaries from Kaushini Nuthyangana pushed Sri Lanka past the 110 mark, but the total remained well below par.

India’s chase turned into a one-woman spectacle. Shafali Verma absorbed early pressure and then unleashed controlled aggression, tearing into the Sri Lankan attack with fearless strokeplay.

She smashed 11 fours and three towering sixes, racing to her half-century in just 24 balls. Even the early dismissals of Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues failed to slow India’s charge.

Captain’s Support and Stylish Finish

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur anchored the innings calmly, rotating the strike and allowing Shafali to dominate.

Shafali sealed the win in style, lofting the ball over the infield to finish unbeaten on 79 off just 42 deliveries, as India crossed the target with 6.4 overs to spare.

The comprehensive victory underlined India’s depth, balance, and tactical clarity.

With both bowling and batting units firing in unison, India continued their commanding run against Sri Lanka, registering their fourth consecutive T20I series win over their island rivals and reinforcing their status as a formidable force in women’s cricket.
