India vs New Zealand Final: ICC Chairman Jay Shah Extends Best Wishes To Both Teams

As India and New Zealand prepare to face each other in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, ICC Chairman Jay Shah extended his best wishes to both teams ahead of the title clash.

In a message shared on a social media platform, Shah praised the tournament for its remarkable global engagement and congratulated the finalists.

Taking to X, ICC Chairman posted, “It’s been a record-breaking #t20worldcup with many highlights, including some great performances from our associate members. It’s now time to wish India and New Zealand good luck in the Final, which will be played in front of a huge crowd and watched by hundreds of millions.”

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has already set several viewership milestones, becoming the most-watched edition of the tournament to date.

In India alone, television and digital audiences have crossed 500 million viewers, the highest ever recorded for a T20 World Cup.

The tournament also witnessed strong growth on streaming platforms.

The ICC’s digital streaming service, which caters to fans in emerging cricket markets, recorded its highest concurrent viewership during the Super 8 match between India and the West Indies, surpassing the previous record set during the 2024 T20 World Cup final.

Massive Engagement Across Social Media

On social media, the tournament has generated unprecedented engagement.

The ICC reported that video views across its platforms have crossed 10 billion and are on course to exceed the 16 billion views achieved during the 2024 edition.

The second semi-final between India and England set a new digital record, with a peak concurrency of 65.2 million viewers on JioHotstar, the highest for any live event globally.

On the field, the tournament has produced several intense contests and dramatic moments.

The group stage featured 20 teams divided into four groups of five, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super Eights round.

Traditional cricketing powers such as Australia and Pakistan faced tough challenges in the early stages, while emerging teams like Zimbabwe and Nepal delivered strong performances, reflecting the growing competitiveness of international T20 cricket.

The Super Eights phase further raised the stakes, with eight teams, India, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Pakistan, competing in two groups.

Only the top two teams from each group progressed to the semi-finals, with several matches decided in the closing overs and net run rate playing a key role in determining the final standings.
