India’s men’s cricket team flew out to Sri Lanka on Friday evening in preparation for their vital Group A showdown with Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The marquee match is scheduled to be played at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
The players, along with team officials and close family members, departed from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi for the Sri Lankan capital.
Colombo will stage one of the tournament’s most commercially significant games.
Both India and Pakistan have registered two wins from two matches. As a result, they remain firmly in contention for a place in the Super 8s.
Sunday’s result is likely to determine the group leaders and provide a psychological advantage heading into the next round.
Pakistan opened their campaign with a narrow three-wicket victory over the Netherlands. India had to recover from a precarious 77/6 against the United States before skipper Suryakumar Yadav produced an unbeaten 84 and Mohammed Siraj delivered figures of 3/29 to secure a 29-run triumph.
In their subsequent fixture, India dominated Namibia with a comprehensive 93-run win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Pakistan followed up by defeating the USA by 32 runs in Colombo.
The fixture had briefly come under threat after indications that Pakistan might withdraw from the encounter.
Following talks involving the ICC and representations from Sri Lankan authorities regarding potential financial losses, the issue was resolved and the match confirmed.
With fierce rivalry and significant tournament implications at stake, anticipation continues to build for this highly charged contest in Colombo.
