IND vs ENG Hockey WC: India stopped England’s penalty corner in the last minute, the match ended in a draw

IND vs ENG Hockey Highlights: India played its second match against England on Sunday at Rourkela’s Birsa Munda Stadium. Both teams had many chances to score but failed to break each other’s defense. This match was important to mark their position in the quarter-finals.

During the match, England got 8 chances in the form of penalty corners while India got 4 chances. However, these chances could not be converted into goals.

Green card to three players

During the match, in the 51st minute, India’s vice-captain and the hero of the previous match Amit Rohidas got a green card, due to which he had to be out of the field. Jarmanpreet Singh got a green card in the 56th minute and had to go out of the field. India had to play the match with 10 players for a few minutes. At the last minute of the match, an English player got a green card.

Match Highlights: 

Both teams failed to score in the first quarter of the match. England definitely got many chances to score in the penalty shootout, but the English team failed to score in front of India’s strong defense. No goal could be scored in the second quarter as well. England and India definitely had chances to score but the teams could not succeed in penetrating each other’s defense. In the third quarter, India showed a brilliant and attacking game but could not capitalize on the two opportunities they got in the form of a penalty shootout. England got a penalty corner in the 60th minute, but could not score.

Won the first match

India defeated Spain 2-0 in their first match of the tournament played at the same ground on 13 January. Vice-captain Amit Rohidas and Hardik Singh scored goals for India.

India’s next match against Wales

India will now play the next match with Wales on 19 January. Sixth-ranked India will enter as favourites against 15th-ranked Wales. But in this match, India will have to win at any cost. If this does not happen, then the way to the quarter-finals will be difficult.
