IND vs AUS 5th T-20: India beat Australia as Arshdeep defends 10 off last over

In Sunday’s fifth and final Twenty20 International of the recently finished series between Team India and Australia, Arshdeep Singh’s masterful final over prevented Avesh Khan from blushing. Matthew Wade had hit a rough patch. An ice-cold Arshdeep displayed his death-over heroics to seal a thrilling six-run victory for Suryakumar Yadav and Co. at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, despite being asked to defend 10 runs in the final six balls of the exciting match.

The fifth game of the series ended in a deadlock thanks to a brilliant knock by Rinku Singh and Axar Patel’s heroics in the fourth Twenty20 International. Suryakumar’s Team India was invited to bat first on a sticky Bengaluru wicket, and they amassed a formidable score in the 20-over match. In the ninth over, the in-form Rinku was given the order to march off, reducing India to 55-4. Prior to Axar Patel’s late flourish, leading the hosts to 160-8 in 20 overs, top batsman Shreyas Iyer struck a half-century to ensure that India recovered from a mini-batting collapse.

India remains a target for Mukesh and Arshdeep

Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar, the inexperienced fast-bowling pair, had to do a great deal to keep Australia from winning on the last day of their India tour, even though Iyer was confident that he and Axar had driven India to a par total. Prior to the 2023 World Cup, the Australian team traveled to India for a one-sided One Day International (ODI) series. The visitors went above and beyond to defeat India in the World Cup final and win a record-tying sixth title.

Wade steps in

Speaking about how Australia performed in the last game of the India trip, Ben McDermott’s aggressive half-century (54 off 36 balls) kept the 2021 World Cup winners in the hunt. With the last delivery of the 15th over, pacer Arshdeep removed McDermott, setting up Avesh Khan to bowl the 16th. Australia needed 45 runs in the last 30 balls as captain Wade came to the crease. Australia had five wickets remaining; therefore, the game was definitely theirs to lose.

Mukesh’s game changing over

Matthew Short and captain Wade teamed to steal eight runs in the 16th over against a returning Avesh Khan, who had given up 16 runs in his opening two overs. Australia needed 37 runs from the next 24 balls, so they sent in pacer Mukesh to bowl the 16th over. On the second delivery, Mukesh let a boundary off Short after missing his yorker. With the next ball, Pacer Mukesh immediately restored his reputation by getting short as a batter. Ben Dwarshuis was given a golden duck by the India speedster, who executed a flawless finish.

Arshdeep comments, “Mukesh, with a 7-run finish in 19th place.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad nearly had India’s man on the opening ball of the over, darting a run for a caught dismissal of the Australians. Wade was forced to accept a single after his valiant effort. Two balls later, an on-song Wade successfully struck a boundary off Mukesh, and the Australian captain kept the strike to take on Arshdeep in the thrilling last over. Mukesh led Team India to the twentieth over with just seven runs lost in an innings that will go down in history due to what Arshdeep accomplished in his final six balls.
