Hockey Jharkhand Wins 3rd Straight Sub Junior Women National Title; Dominates 2026 Championship

Hockey Jharkhand continued its dominance at the grassroots level by winning the 16th Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship 2026 gold medal, securing its third consecutive title from 2024 to 2026, and reinforcing its status among the country’s top junior teams.

Significant infrastructure development between 2014 and 2026 has supported Jharkhand’s rise. Multiple astroturfs have been established across districts such as Simdega, Khunti, Ranchi, Hazaribagh, and Jamshedpur, with another facility under construction in Gumla. These developments have played a key role in nurturing talent across the state.

Over the past 16 years, Jharkhand’s structured youth development program has yielded consistent success at the Hockey India National Championships, particularly in women’s categories.

The state has won 34 medals in total, including 10 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze. The Junior Women’s team has secured 14 medals (5 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze), while the Sub Junior Women’s team has won 12 medals (4 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze), including a recent hat-trick of titles. At the senior level, Jharkhand has claimed 8 medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 6 bronze), with its latest success coming in 2025.

Simdega district has emerged as a major hub for Indian women’s hockey, contributing significantly to both junior and senior national teams.

Key Players in 2026 Championship Win

The 2026 Sub Junior championship-winning squad featured players such as Sandeepa Kumari, Pushpa Manjhi, Preeti Biluung, Regina Kullu, Saniya Tirkey, and Nipunata Kullu.

Between 2016 and 2026, Simdega has consistently produced players for the national team, including captain Salima Tete and others like Sangita Kumari, Beauty Dungdung, and Deepika Soreng.

While the women’s program has led the success, Hockey Jharkhand has also won four medals in the men’s sub-junior category.

“This success is a result of years of consistent effort at the junior level. I would like to congratulate all our young players, especially those coming through the Sub Junior and Junior ranks, for their dedication and strong and consistent performances. Equal credit goes to our coaches and support staff who have worked tirelessly to build this system,” said Hockey India Secretary General and Hockey Jharkhand President Bhola Nath Singh.

Bhola Nath Singh further added that we are proud to see our players not only win the Hockey India National Championships but also go on to represent India at the highest level. This is a matter of great pride for Jharkhand, and we remain committed to strengthening our youth system further.
