Indian archers added to the country’s medal tally on Friday as Paralympic champion Harvinder Singh and Vijay Sundi won gold in the men’s recurve doubles.
Pooja and Bhawana secured silver in the women’s event at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square.
Harvinder and Vijay defeated China’s Zhao Lixue and Yun Duo 5-1 in the final. The Indian pair tied the opening set before winning the next two to clinch gold.
The Indians scored 37 points in the second set against China’s 36, taking a 3-1 lead. They then produced 38 points in the third set, while their opponents managed 36, sealing the title.
Pooja and Bhawana, however, lost 0-6 to China’s Wang Xueqian and Gao Zihan in the women’s recurve doubles final.
The Chinese pair dominated all three sets, scoring 38, 35 and 39 points against India’s 31, 30 and 29, respectively.
India missed another medal in the mixed doubles bronze-medal match. Harvinder and Bhawana lost to Iran after both teams finished regulation play at 4-4.
The shoot-off also ended level at 18-18, but Iran prevailed with arrows closer to the target’s centre.
