Harmanpreet on being called Jemimah
On Wednesday, the Indian women’s team defeated Bangladesh by 108 runs in the second one-day international of the three-match series to tie the score at 1-1. After suffering a shocking loss in the first game, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team responded in impressive fashion, scoring a respectable 228/8 in the first inning while batting first and then bundling the opponents for just 120. Incredibly, Jemimah Rodrigues recorded unbelievable numbers of 4/3 in 3.1 overs while scoring 86 runs off just 78 deliveries.
Even though she was forced to leave the game due to injury after experiencing pain in her left hand, Indian skipper Harmanpreet still put on a valiant performance. Following the rapid wickets in the Indian innings, she resumed batting alongside Jemimah and scored a valiant fifty, reaching 52 off 88 deliveries. But when Harmanpreet was discussing the huge victory in the post-game interview, an odd occurrence happened.
The Indian captain corrected the broadcaster after the interview when he accidentally stated, “Thank you, Jemimah,” saying, “Harmanpreet Kaur.” When the presenter eventually corrected himself, she took the microphone without waiting for him to respond.
The interviewer made the simple error of mixing the names, which rightfully angered the fans. Many lambasted the broadcaster for his ignorance, while others also criticized the entire broadcast crew.
