Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma emphasized the strong bonds between India and Australia during his speech at the Australian Parliament on Thursday. He pledged to build on India’s recent series-winning momentum during their ongoing tour.
The Indian team met Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at a reception hosted at the Federal Parliament House ahead of their tour game.
Rohit acknowledged the historical ties between the two nations in sports and trade. He described Australia as a challenging yet rewarding destination for cricket. “Over the years, we have enjoyed coming here, playing cricket, and experiencing the rich culture. Australia’s passion and competitiveness make it a special place for us,” he said.
He also reflected on India’s success in the past week and expressed excitement for the remaining tour. “We aim to entertain the Australian public and Indian fans. It’s never easy here, but we look forward to achieving our goals while enjoying the variety Australia offers,” Rohit added.
The Indian team arrived in Canberra on Thursday morning after their commanding 295-run win in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. The victory gave India a 1-0 lead in the five-Test series.
India is set to play a day-and-night game against the Prime Minister’s XI at Manuka Oval on Saturday. The second Test, also a day-night match, will be held in Adelaide from December 6 to 10.
Rohit Sharma concluded his speech by thanking the Australian Prime Minister and expressing excitement for the month ahead.
