Gautam Gambhir’s Demands Met By BCCI, Coach Announcement Expected Soon

Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team is nearly certain. For months, Gambhir has been linked to the India coach job, as current coach Rahul Dravid’s contract will expire after the ongoing T20 World Cup. According to a report, the BCCI will make Gambhir’s appointment official in the coming days. Gambhir has accepted the offer from the BCCI but has set a few conditions, all of which the board has agreed to.

“We have spoken with Gambhir about becoming the head coach of the Indian team. He will take over from the outgoing Rahul Dravid after the T20 World Cup,” a BCCI source, familiar with the developments, told.

The report also mentioned that Gambhir requested to choose his support staff, and the BCCI has accepted this demand. The board will announce Gambhir’s appointment as head coach later this month.

When Ravi Shastri served as head coach, Vikram Rathour replaced Sanjay Bangar as the batting coach. Rathour continued in the support staff even after Dravid took over as head coach.

Currently, Paras Mhambrey serves as the bowling coach, and T Dilip as the fielding coach. The report further disclosed that Gambhir plans to make changes not only to the support staff but also to the team.

Under Gambhir’s mentorship, the Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL 2024 title. His leadership at KKR has earned widespread acclaim, boosting his profile as a top coaching candidate.

In a recent event, Gambhir stated, “There is no greater honor than coaching the national team.”

“I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no greater honor than coaching your national team. You represent 140 crore Indians and people around the world,” the 42-year-old said.

Gambhir played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup-winning team in 2007 and the 2011 ODI World Cup-winning side.
