Delhi Water Crisis: DJB Office Vandalized, Three Injured In Tap Access Clash

The water crisis in Delhi has triggered protests, vandalism, and intense political exchanges throughout the capital. On Sunday, unidentified individuals vandalized the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) office in Chhatarpur due to the severe water shortage, reported ANI. ANI’s footage captured shattered window panes and broken earthen pots at the DJB office. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) shared another video of the incident, alleging that BJP leaders and workers were responsible. The video showed a man wearing a BJP scarf. “See how BJP workers break the office of the Delhi Jal Board while shouting slogans of ‘BJP Zindabad’,” AAP posted on X.

BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri commented, “It is natural. People can do anything when they are angry. I am grateful to BJP workers who managed to control them… Damaging government and people’s property does not benefit anyone.”

Tensions also escalated in the Dwarka district, where a dispute over access to water from a common tap resulted in three injuries and hospitalizations at Indira Gandhi Hospital. The Delhi Police confirmed receiving two PCR calls about the incident and have registered cross-cases based on statements from both parties. They clarified that the conflict had no communal angle and announced that an investigation is ongoing.

BJP MP Harsh Malhotra accused the AAP government of corruption and mismanagement, asserting, “The Delhi government receives enough water for the public. The current shortage stems from their corruption, lack of planning, and inaction.”

In response to the escalating crisis, Delhi Water Minister Atishi wrote to Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, requesting the deployment of personnel to protect major water pipelines from potential sabotage. She mentioned that a recent incident involved deliberate damage to a key pipeline in South Delhi, worsening the water shortage.
