England Outclass India In Final T20I To Complete 4-0 Series Triumph

England capped off an outstanding T20I series with a convincing 56-run victory over India in the fifth and final match at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on Saturday.

Set a challenging target of 258, India managed 201/8 in their allotted 20 overs despite determined knocks from Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma.

The emphatic win propelled England to the summit of the ICC Men’s T20I rankings, while India slipped from the top spot after suffering a sixth consecutive defeat in the shortest format.

India launched their chase with positive intent as Sanju Samson, drafted into the playing XI in place of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, attacked Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue with a series of boundaries and sixes.

England quickly regained control after Archer dismissed Abhishek Sharma, before Sam Curran accounted for Samson to break India’s early momentum.

Shreyas Iyer added valuable runs at a brisk pace with a 28-run cameo before Liam Dawson ended his stay at the crease.

Kishan continued to play fluently and reached his fifty from only 30 deliveries, but Adil Rashid removed him soon afterwards, with Phil Salt taking an excellent catch.

Tilak Varma fought back with an entertaining 53 off 24 balls, striking four sixes and three fours to delay the inevitable. Curran, however, produced another decisive spell by dismissing Shivam Dube and Suryansh Shedge, leaving India with too much to do.

Josh Tongue then ended Varma’s innings in the 18th over, while Rashid claimed the wicket of Axar Patel in the final over to complete England’s dominant bowling display.

Earlier, England posted a formidable 257/3 after captain Jos Buttler hammered a brilliant 131, while Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 95 to power the hosts to a massive total.
