England Edge Past Norway In Extra Time As Jude Bellingham’s Brace Secures FIFA World Cup Semi-Final Spot

England progressed to the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals after overcoming Norway 2-1 in an absorbing quarter-final that required extra time at Miami Stadium on Sunday.

Jude Bellingham emerged as England’s match-winner with two crucial goals as Thomas Tuchel’s men recovered from an early setback to continue their impressive campaign.

The result earned England a place in the World Cup’s final four for the fourth time, with either Argentina or Switzerland awaiting them in the semi-finals.

Norway took control midway through the opening half and deservedly broke the deadlock in the 36th minute.

Andreas Schjelderup found the net with a well-placed effort after England had already been warned by Erling Haaland, whose earlier header forced Jordan Pickford into action.

Competing in their first-ever World Cup quarter-final, Norway displayed confidence and resilience against one of the tournament favourites.

England restored parity deep into first-half stoppage time when Bellingham drove into the box and finished clinically beyond Orjan Nyland.

Harry Kane thought he had completed the turnaround shortly afterwards, but the assistant’s flag denied the England captain after an offside decision.

Norway celebrated what they believed was a second goal through Torbjorn Heggem just before the hour mark, but VAR overturned the strike after identifying a foul by Haaland on Elliot Anderson in the build-up.

Neither side managed to find a winner during normal time despite several close chances.

Kristoffer Ajer rattled the crossbar for Norway, while England continued to search for the breakthrough before the contest entered extra time.

Only three minutes into the additional period, Bellingham reacted quickest after Orjan Nyland failed to hold Morgan Rogers’ powerful shot, converting the rebound to send England into the semi-finals.
