Dhruv Jurel’s 115, Rishabh Pant’s 63 Put India In Command In 2nd Test

Dhruv Jurel smashed an unbeaten 115 while Rishabh Pant scored a rapid 63 as India declared at 503/9 on Day Two of the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on Monday.

Jurel’s 115 off 177 balls was his second Test century and first in Sri Lankan conditions.

Pant, who had earlier retired hurt after being struck on his left wrist, returned to launch an aggressive counterattack and brought up his 21st Test fifty.

The pair took India safely through the first session before Pant was dismissed by Keshara Nuwantha immediately after lunch.

Jurel then added 39 runs with Manav Suthar, who made 18, before Prabath Jayasuriya dismissed the left-arm spinner.

After a rain interruption of two hours and 10 minutes, Jurel reached his century by driving Asitha Fernando over the bowler’s head and completing a risky single. He then shifted gears, hitting Fernando for a six before Prasidh Krishna’s boundary took India beyond 500.

Captain Shubman Gill declared immediately, giving India a chance to attack Sri Lanka in fading light.

The decision paid off quickly. Prasidh Krishna dismissed Lahiru Udara for one with his second delivery, with Yashasvi Jaiswal taking a sharp catch at gully.

Manav Suthar then trapped nightwatcher Prabath Jayasuriya lbw on the final ball of the third over.

Sri Lanka ended the day at 8/2, trailing India by 495 runs with eight wickets remaining.
