Chennai Super Kings registered a commanding eight-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in Match 44 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
With this result, CSK climbed to sixth place with four wins from nine matches, while MI remained ninth after suffering their seventh defeat.
After winning the toss, MI chose to bat but could manage only 159/7 in their 20 overs. The innings began poorly as Will Jacks fell for just one run with the score at 1.
Naman Dhir then stabilised the innings alongside Ryan Rickelton, adding 58 runs for the second wicket in 32 balls.
Rickelton scored a brisk 37 off 24 deliveries, including five sixes. Suryakumar Yadav joined Dhir to add another 40 runs for the third wicket, taking MI close to the 100-run mark.
Suryakumar made 21 off 12 balls, while Dhir top-scored with 57 off 37 deliveries, striking three sixes and four boundaries.
For CSK, Anshul Kamboj led the bowling effort with three wickets. Noor Ahmad claimed two wickets, while Ramakrishna Ghosh and Jamie Overton picked up one each.
In reply, CSK completed the chase in 18.1 overs despite an early setback.
The bowlers dismissed Sanju Samson for 11 in the second over, but captain Ruturaj Gaikwad steadied the innings with Urvil Patel, adding 49 runs in 22 balls.
Urvil contributed 24 off 12 balls before departing. Gaikwad then combined with Kartik Sharma to produce an unbeaten 98-run partnership, sealing the win.
Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 67 off 48 balls. Kartik, meanwhile, scored a fluent 54 off 40 deliveries, including three sixes and four fours.
For MI, Jasprit Bumrah and AM Ghazanfar managed one wicket each, but the total proved insufficient to challenge CSK’s strong batting line-up.
The victory boosts Chennai Super Kings’ campaign and lifts them up the standings. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, face increasing pressure to revive their season in the remaining matches.
