BCCI Confronts Mohsin Naqvi Over Asia Cup Trophy Controversy At ACC Meeting

In a dramatic turn of events, the BCCI confronted ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi over the Asia Cup trophy controversy.

During the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, BCCI’s Rajeev Shukla raised strong objections to the post-final presentation fiasco.

Shukla directly asked Naqvi why the trophy had not been handed over to the Indian team after their dominant tournament victory.

He emphasised that officials must award the Asia Cup trophy to the rightful winning team, as it is not personal property.

Naqvi reportedly said there was no formal communication from India declining to accept the trophy from his hands.

Sources claimed Naqvi didn’t congratulate India, instead praising Nepal and Mongolia on their induction into the ACC.

BCCI firmly responded, asserting India’s right to the trophy and refusing any negotiations or further delay in delivery.

“If required, we’ll collect it from the ACC office ourselves,” BCCI told the council members during the heated discussions.

Despite consistent pressure, Naqvi remained defiant and suggested holding more internal talks before making a final decision.

BCCI, standing firm, is now preparing an official complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the incident.

Tensions began after India beat Pakistan in the final, but officials suspiciously delayed the trophy handover without explanation.

Star batter Suryakumar Yadav and his teammates refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi during the live ceremony.

This refusal came amid ongoing political tensions, as Naqvi is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and Chairman of the PCB.

Earlier in the tournament, the Indian team avoided handshakes with Pakistani players during their first two encounters.

The incident has sparked criticism, with fans and officials calling it disrespectful and damaging to sportsmanship values.

The situation remains unresolved, but India continues to demand rightful recognition and possession of the Asia Cup trophy.
