In the upcoming months, the spotlight will be firmly on the Indian cricket team as they transition from Test cricket to the fast-paced world of T20 action. Following the conclusion of the India vs England Test series, the focus will shift to the highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL), followed by the 2024 T20 World Cup in June. After the disappointment of falling short in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, India is eager to turn the page and embark on a new journey.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah has made it clear that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian cricket team in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Additionally, Shah has emphasized that IPL franchises must adhere to the workload management guidelines set by the BCCI for centrally contracted players.
“This is a directive from the BCCI. The BCCI holds authority, and franchises are obligated to comply with our decisions—we are the governing body,” Shah stated, as reported by PTI.
Earlier reports from PTI indicated that the BCCI would require Indian players to participate in the Ranji Trophy for a minimum of three or four matches if they intend to play in the IPL.

“I have already communicated this verbally, and I will be sending formal letters as well. If the chairman of selectors, coach, and captain deem it necessary, players will be expected to engage in red-ball cricket,” Shah informed the media.
However, Shah clarified that these decisions would be made in consultation with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.
“We will consider the advice provided by the NCA. If a player’s physical condition cannot support both white-ball and red-ball cricket, we will not impose any requirements in that regard,” he added.”
