Bangladesh Name 15-Man Squad For Afghanistan Test, Shanto To Lead

Bangladesh have selected a 15-member squad for their one-off Test against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates, with the match scheduled to begin on October 9.

Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue to captain the team as Bangladesh begin preparations for their next red-ball assignment.

Tanzid Hasan, Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque will provide options at the top of the order.

Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das form the experienced core of the middle order, while Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali Anik provide additional batting depth.

Bangladesh have selected Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam as their principal spin options for the UAE encounter.

The pace department includes Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury and Shoriful Islam.

Bangladesh Carry Australia Momentum

Bangladesh enter the Afghanistan Test after producing a landmark result during their recent series in Australia.

They defeated Australia by nine wickets in Darwin to secure their first Test victory on Australian soil.

Hasan Mahmud claimed six wickets for 55 runs in Australia’s first innings, while Tanzid Hasan made history by becoming the first Bangladesh batter to score a Test century in Australia.

Australia levelled the series in Mackay by winning the second Test by an innings and 51 runs.

The 1-1 series result marked Bangladesh’s first Test series in Australia in 23 years and gave the team valuable momentum ahead of the Afghanistan fixture.

The UAE Test will also begin a busy multi-format period for Afghanistan during October and November, with a white-ball series involving Zimbabwe also scheduled.
