Bangladesh Captain Shanto Keeps Focus On Performance Ahead Of Mackay Test

Bangladesh will meet Australia in the second Test at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay on Saturday, knowing that a draw would be enough to secure a historic series victory.

The visitors took a 1-0 lead after producing a memorable nine-wicket win over Australia in the opening Test in Darwin.

Another success in Mackay would complete a 2-0 series sweep and further strengthen Bangladesh’s growing reputation in Test cricket.

With Bangladesh on the verge of a landmark achievement, Shanto has asked his squad not to become distracted by the possibility of making history.

The Bangladesh captain wants his players to concentrate on executing their plans and maintaining discipline throughout each day of the Test. He believes that consistently following the right approach will give the team the best chance of achieving the desired result.

Shanto acknowledged the emotional impact of the Darwin victory but said his players must now move forward. He stressed the importance of adapting quickly to the different conditions in Mackay and preparing for another demanding contest.

The Bangladesh captain described the Australian tour as a valuable challenge for his side and encouraged his players to embrace the experience.

The victory in Darwin has increased the team’s confidence, but Shanto believes Bangladesh must regularly face strong opposition away from home if they want to develop further. He maintained that competing in unfamiliar and difficult conditions will help the players understand their strengths and demonstrate their ability on the international stage.

As Bangladesh prepare for the crucial second Test, Shanto’s approach remains centred on performance rather than history.

If Bangladesh can reproduce the quality of cricket they displayed in Darwin, they will have a strong opportunity to secure a historic series triumph.
