At The Asian Games Against Nepal Yashasvi Jaiswal Broke Shubman Gill’s Record With Maiden T20I Century

In Hangzhou, China, where a Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Men in Blue team played Nepal in the quarterfinal encounter at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, Yashasvi Jaiswal made an impressive start to his 2023 Asian Games campaign. The young Indian opener broke Shubman Gill’s recently written T20I record and became the country’s first centurion at the multi-sport tournament.

At the age of 9 years, 9 months, and 13 days, Jaiswal surpassed Gill’s elusive mark for India’s youngest T20I centurion. The achievement was accomplished by Gill earlier this year against New Zealand when he hammered an unbroken 126, the greatest-ever score by an Indian in the shortest format. The ODI World Cup-bound batter was 23 years and 146 days old at the time of the knock.

India’s first-ever cricket appearance at the Asian Games featured Jaiswal shutting down the Nepal onslaught in the quarterfinal match. Additionally, he was able to reach the triple-figure milestone in 48 deliveries in just his sixth appearance in the format. In addition, he follows the illustrious Suresh Raina as the second left-handed batter from India to record a century in the format. In addition to Gill, Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Deepak Hooda, more Indian batsmen have accomplished the feat.

Jaiswal made his Test debut for India earlier in the summer of 2023, defeating West Indies in Dominica with a brilliant and record-breaking 171 runs in the opening game.
On Tuesday, Ruturaj Gaikwad, India’s skipper, scored 25 runs during the 100-run opening stand that Jaiswal was a bigger part of before Nepal inflicted a minor collapse by reducing India to 3 down in the span of just 18 balls for 16 runs. A few more overs later, Jaiswal also left the game with the same delivery that Rinku Singh made his trademark catch. With four sixes and two boundaries in his 37 off just 15 balls, he helped India set Nepal a goal of 203.
