Asian Para Games 2026: Pradeep Kumar Wins Javelin Silver, Ayush Verma Claims Bronze

India secured a double podium finish in the men’s javelin throw at the 2026 Asian Para Games on Tuesday, with Pradeep Kumar winning silver and Ayush Verma claiming bronze in the F53/F54 event.

Competing in the F54 category, Pradeep recorded a personal best of 27.45 metres on his final attempt to clinch silver.

Ayush, competing in F53, registered a personal best of 17.88 metres in his fifth throw to secure bronze. He earned sufficient Raza points despite the shorter distance.

The silver medal marked Pradeep’s second consecutive silver in men’s javelin F54 at the Asian Para Games. He had previously finished second at the 2022 edition in Hangzhou, China. He won gold at the 2026 National Para Athletics Championships.

The Raza Point System enables officials to compare athletes with different types or degrees of disabilities when multiple para-athletics classifications compete in a combined event. It converts performances, such as throwing distances, jumping distances or running times, into points. The athlete with the highest score wins.

India’s medal tally grew further when Praveen Sharma won bronze in the men’s shot put F11, recording a personal best of 13.86 metres with his final throw. He had registered 13.60 metres in his fourth attempt before improving his mark in the final round.

The F11 classification is designated for athletes with visual impairments.

India recorded two one-two finishes in para athletics on Monday. Rinku won gold in the men’s javelin throw F46, ahead of Ajeet Singh, while Soumya clinched the women’s 1,500m T12/T13 title, with Radha Venkatesh taking silver.

India has won 22 medals at the 2026 Asian Para Games so far. The tally comprises five gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals.

Para-athletics competitions have contributed four of the country’s five gold medals.
