Asian Games 2023: India Finally Crosses The 100-Medal Mark For First Time In History

The day of October 6, 2023, will be remembered as one of the most significant in Indian sports history. The Indian delegation told the country that the Asian Games medal total would reach the coveted three-figure level. A 655-member contingent will leave its mark on history by guaranteeing India’s first-ever 100-medal haul, which will be written down in golden letters. India has so far confirmed 91 medals, but there are already nine that have been guaranteed, bringing the total to the crucial three-figure threshold.

The journey, which began with the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Silver Medal, reached a significant turning point on October 6 when wrestler Sonam won the 100th medal. In the 62 kg freestyle event bronze medal match, Sonam defeated China’s Long Jiain to win the medal. Sonam won the third prize by outlasting her Chinese rival 7-5.

India’s extraordinary journey at the Asian Games 2023

The destination of a voyage that began with the goal of “Iss baar 100 paar” was Hangzhou, which saw a number of champions. For India, many athletes won medals. On September 24, a women’s 10 meter air rifle team won silver for the country. That was the first victory. Two days before the Games’ conclusion on October 8th, another woman named Sonam brought the 100th one for the country. Numerous other athletes won silver and bronze medals for India, including Neeraj Chopra, Murali Sreeshankar, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Parul Chaudhary, and Annu Rani. India has a total of 91 medals, including 21 gold, 33 silver, and 37 bronze.

Apart from the victorious 91 medals, India has assured nine more medals to its name. The archery event has three medals guaranteed, while Kabaddi has two. Badminton, cricket, hockey, and bridge have assured a medal each. India stands fourth in the overall medal tally, as China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea stand above India.
