After much delay, the schedule for the 2023 Asia Cup was finally revealed on Thursday. The Asian Cricket Council has announced that the tournament will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It will begin on August 31st and go on till September 17th.
There will be 13 one-day internationals in which India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal will face off.
The Asia Cup is scheduled to take place in Pakistan in 2023, but India’s unwillingness to visit the nation casts doubt on the hosting of the tournament. Najam Sethi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), later offered a “hybrid model” in which four matches would be played in Pakistan and the other matches in Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka also proposed hosting the entire tournament in the island nation.
Finally, on Thursday, the ACC accepted the hybrid model, with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka.
The 2023 edition will feature two groups, with two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then face off in the final.
