Adani Foundation-Backed District Sports Championship Concludes Successfully In Mirzapur

A three-day district-level Senior Men’s and Women’s Volleyball, Kabaddi and Powerlifting Championship concluded successfully at the Sports Stadium, Bhiskhuri Pahadi, Mirzapur. The event ran from February 9 to 11, 2026.

Adani Foundation and the Regional Sports Office, Mirzapur, organised the tournament under the Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of Mirzapur Thermal Energy.

Teams and athletes from across the district participated enthusiastically.

Day One – February 9: Volleyball

Shyamsundar Keshari, Chairman, Municipal Council, Mirzapur, inaugurated the competition.

In the men’s category, eight teams competed. Mediya defeated S N Public School 25-24. Jigna overcame Amghat 21-06.

Gharwaspur beat Holwapur 21-14. Adalpura defeated Bhaveya 25-10. In the semi-finals, Jigna edged past Mediya 25-17, while Adalpura defeated Gharwaspur 26-24.

In the final, Adalpura outplayed Jigna 15-09, 15-13 to secure the title.

Eight teams contested in the women’s division. Mavaiya beat Tulapur 21-02. Mediya A defeated Morchachar 21-05.

Gharwaspur overcame Mediya B 21-12. S N Public School defeated Stadium 24-22. In the semi-finals, Mavaiya beat Mediya 21-12, and Gharwaspur defeated SN Public School 15-05.

In the final, Mavaiya triumphed over Gharwaspur 21-16, 21-14 to claim the championship.

Day Two – February 10: Kabaddi

Ram Vilash Yadav, District Social Welfare Officer, inaugurated the kabaddi matches.

In the men’s section, Jagapatti defeated Police Line 40-11. Chausa beat Vindhyachal 24-20.

Sports Stadium overcame Amghat 17-07. Padra defeated Majhawan 16-04.

In the semi-finals, Jagapatti defeated Chausa 18-10, and Sports Stadium edged Padra 19-18. Jagapatti won the final against Sports Stadium 24-20.

In the women’s category, Kon Block defeated Sports Stadium 19-06. Model Inter College Rudauli beat Jagapatti 35-10.

Vindhyagyan Public School defeated Amghat 21-18. Mini Stadium Chunar beat Kamasin 27-17.

In the semi-finals, Mini Stadium Chunar defeated Vindhyagyan 10-05, while Model Inter College Rudauli beat Kon Block 25-18. Mini Stadium Chunar won the final 23-07.

Day Three – February 11: Powerlifting

Nirmala Rai, Vice-President, Bharatiya Janata Party, inaugurated the powerlifting event.

A total of 215 athletes, including 150 men and 65 women, competed across weight categories.

Officials awarded winners and runners-up. Organisers distributed kits to all participants.

Sports officers, Adani Foundation representatives and international athlete Smt Nidhi Singh Patel felicitated the winners.

Local residents praised the initiative as a significant step towards sports development in the district.
