Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the medallist shooter and IOC member Abhinav Bindra, for being awarded the Olympic Order by the International Olympic Committee
During the Paris Olympic Games, which begin on Friday, Olympic body will award the Olympic order to Bindra—who became the first Indian to win an individual gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event in 2008—in recognition of his distinguished commitment to furthering the Olympic movement and ideals.
“It makes every Indian proud that @Abhinav_Bindra has been awarded the Olympic Order. Congratulations to him. Be it as an athlete or a mentor to upcoming sportspersons, he has made noteworthy contributions to sports and the Olympic Movement,” Prime Minister Modi wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Taking no time, Bindra responded to Prime Minister’s applause and expressed his gratefulness for the acknowledgement.
“Thank you Sir for your kind words and encouragement”, Bindra wrote in response to the PM’s post.
During its meeting before to the 142nd IOC Session in Paris, the IOC Executive Board made the decision to bestow upon Bindra the Olympic Order, the highest honor bestowed by the Olympic body. The Olympic body will award the prize on August 10 at a function held in conjunction with the Olympic Games in Paris.
