15th DGC Junior Golf Tournament Tees Off In New Delhi With 180 Young Golfers

The 15th DGC Junior/Sub-Junior Golf Tournament commenced on Tuesday at the renowned Delhi Golf Club (DGC), drawing more than 180 promising golfers aged between 6 and 22.

Set across the picturesque Lodhi and Peacock courses, the tournament will span three days, with players competing across 18 holes daily.

The ceremonial tee-off featured two notable names in Indian golf. Kashika Misra is India’s top-ranked golfer in IGU Category A Deepak Yadav, a new professional, recently set a course record with a 10-under round at the NCR Cup.

Young Talent on Display

This tournament brings together some of the nation’s most talented junior golfers. Among them is Rakshit Dahiya, recent winner of the NCR Cup, Kashika Misra, continuing her stellar form at the top of the IGU merit list; and Shan Alvi, a caddy’s son who has remarkably secured five consecutive IGU tournament wins.

These young athletes represent a new generation of Indian golfers. They are equipped with both skill and determination. Each one competes for recognition and future opportunities in the sport.

Championing Inclusivity in Golf

True to its ethos of inclusivity, the Delhi Golf Club has waived entry fees for 30 underprivileged participants.

This group includes 15 children of DGC caddies. Seven participants are from Village Jindali, supported by The Golf Foundation. Eight others come from the Ultimate Foundation.

These initiatives ensure the sport reaches players from diverse and underserved backgrounds.

Mala Bawa, Lady Captain at DGC, shared her thoughts on the event, “It is truly inspiring to see such passion and perseverance among the young golfers. Usha’s unwavering support over the years has been pivotal in nurturing emerging talent and promoting inclusivity in golf. The growing participation from players of diverse backgrounds, including children of caddies, reflects our shared belief that the talent can come from anywhere, all it needs is the right platform.”

Usha International, a long-time supporter of junior golf, has partnered with the DGC for over 30 years. Their consistent efforts have helped nurture talent across various levels of the sport, from junior to women’s golf. Many successful players have emerged from these tournaments, a testament to the platform’s impact.

The DGC Junior/Sub-Junior Tournament is now underway. The spotlight is on inclusivity and excellence. It promises to be a defining event in India’s junior golf calendar.
