Prime Minister Narendra Modi
BJP’s J&K General Secretary Ashok Koul announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address three election rallies in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Modi will speak at two rallies in the Jammu division and one in Kashmir. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Jammu on September 6 to release the BJP’s election manifesto. Shah will stay for two days.
Koul also mentioned that Shah might visit the Valley during his trip. On Wednesday, BJP candidates filed their nomination papers in Srinagar and received strong local support. Koul expressed confidence, stating, “People of Kashmir have faith in the Narendra Modi-led government and will support the BJP in the ongoing Assembly elections.”
Sources from the BJP indicated that Modi’s rally will likely occur in Doda district, a region that has faced recent terrorist attacks. The party plans to highlight achievements in infrastructure, security, and tourism over the past decade with Modi’s leadership.
The BJP will contest the J&K Assembly elections independently, without forming alliances. However, BJP’s J&K President, Ravinder Raina, suggested that the party might support some independents based on the situation in certain constituencies.
In response, Congress and the National Conference (NC) have formed a pre-poll alliance to challenge the BJP. NC will field candidates in 52 seats, while Congress will contest 31. The alliance has reserved two seats for CPI(M) and the Panthers Party. For five seats—Nagrota, Banihal, Doda, Bhaderwah, and Sopore—both parties will engage in a ‘friendly contest.’
J&K’s Assembly comprises 90 seats, with 47 in the Valley and 43 in the Jammu division. Among these, nine seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and seven for Scheduled Castes (SC).
